Color for Kids' Rooms

When you paint a room you have tons of options. You can choose any color that you want. You also want that color to look good with your kid's decorations and pictures. You don't want the room to be too bright but not too soft either. Here are some ideas to think about when you are decorating or painting your child's room.

Paint is usually the first thing you decide on when you are redecorating or when you moved to a new house. You want it to be perfect and go with everything else. You also want your child to like it. Have your child help you. It will be his room after all and he has to live with it. Let them mainly choose, but be there to help guide him. Let him know that too bold of colors aren't going to look great or just because a really dark green is his favorite color doesn't mean that it will look great on his walls.

When choosing the paint color, remember that the color that you choose can help decide your mood. If you choose a deep dark color then the room might make you feel depressed or sad when you walk into your room. Just think about the colors. When you decide on one or are trying to choose between a few, buy the small sample sizes of paint. Paint a part of the wall with them doing as many layers as you will be doing when you actually paint the walls for real. Leave it up for a few days and look at the colors. If you have different types of light bulbs, try them both out. Paint looks different in different light.

Use artwork and paintings to make the room more colorful. If you go with a more neutral shade, then the room will need more color. Use bright pieces of art that your child draws or paints. It will make it fun for him to have his own artwork on the wall. Have him use bright colors for his drawings and colors that he really likes. It will make the room more his and he will enjoy it more.

If you are going to paint your kid's room a neutral color, paint a mural on one wall. Create a picture that is just like your child and really make it pop. You can hire college art students to paint the wall. It will be cheaper for you and you will still get a great picture. If you are handy with a paint brush, do it yourself. If you want some really fun designs, have your child help. Designate a part of the wall where he can paint. Have him paint a collage of colors and shapes. If you don't want to sacrifice your wall, buy a big piece of wood and have him paint it. Hang it up as a piece of art in the room.

Color is important for rooms. It makes a room more fun and really exciting. It shows personality and characteristics of your child. When you are figuring out what to do for a room, incorporate color and use it everywhere and in everything.
