Creating A Themed Room Without Going Overboard
Decorating a bedroom can be an overwhelming process. Trying to find a balance between paint colors, accessories, and other amenities without going overboard is a difficult task. With a little advice and a level head it is possible though. Here are some tips on how to create a themed room without going overboard.
Most often the rooms that are decorated with a theme are bedrooms, and more specifically children's bedrooms. They're fun to do and can take some practice, but the end result can be amazing. In creating a themed room there is some things to keep in mind. Let's get started.
Step 1: Grab some ideas
The best way to create a themed room is to get some different ideas. If you have an idea of what you want the room to look like then that will help to narrow your searching down. If you're doing a child's bedroom think about what things they enjoy, like to do, or even things they love playing with. Look through some of their favorite books to find some animated pictures, look through magazines, and find some decorating books from a craft store. You can even get online and find many great ideas there as well. If you don't have any idea what you want to do then this is a great way to find some inspiration. You will be able to see how rooms look without taking it way overboard.
Step 2: Find our Colors
Once you have decided on a theme, you will need to go and get the colors. Most likely you will be using different paint colors. Unless you are doing stripes on a wall try to keep the paint to a minimum of three colors. Painting walls too many colors can make the room feel stuffy and over crowded. If they're really bright colors you might want to stick with just one or two as bright colors will bring life to a room; too many however can make it unbearable to be in. You will also want to shop around for fabrics, wallpapers, or borders that you want to help reinforce your chosen theme. In your search however try to select a main print that will set the tone for the whole room.
Step 3: Adding accessories
Finding the right accessories is really what makes the room look great. Be careful however; going overboard with too many extra's can take away from the overall feel of your theme and the room. Look for bedding that will coordinate with your colors, as well as lamps/ lamp shades, light switches, and wall hangings. You don't have to have something in every corner of the room, but whatever you buy as accessories need to match what the theme is. Accessories can add everything or take it all away so remember to keep things simple. Hang a few things on the walls to balance the room out, but don't put things all over the place so that you can't see the wall anymore. Same with adding touches to a dresser or closet. Adding some cute knobs on the dresser will make it look great, but putting decals and painting it bright colors might take away.
Creating themed rooms can be a lot of fun, but can also take a lot of time and energy. Remember to keep things nice and simple as you're creating your masterpiece. Once you've created a themed room it can be difficult to not go overboard. Use the above tips on how to create a themed room without going overboard to help keep it simple and organized.
