Decorating Your Daughter's Room on a Shoe String Budget

Need to decorate a girl's room on a tight budget? Don't worry about not giving your girl the room she's always wanted. You can give her that room, even if you are low on cash. Here are some great decorating ideas for a girl's room when you are on a budget.

Buy Ready Made

Buy a ready made comforter and buy fabrics in coordinating prints for the bed and around the room. You can accent the bed with homemade pillows and use the left over fabric scraps to glue on picture frames to help accent the comforter. Give the room a custom look for a fraction of the cost.

Buy Used

It's ok to buy things that are already used. A lot of times when you go to garage sales, flea markets, and consignment stores, some of these items have barely been used and are like new for a fraction of the price. These are great places to buy slightly used items for your girl's room. Doing this will help you to be able to save a lot of money.

Remember that at these stores or garage sales, you can often negotiate prices to fit into your budget. When you are out shopping make sure to look for other items as well that you may need for other rooms in your house in the future. A lot of times you may find it before you need it, but you may not be so lucky later. Also, if the items aren't exactly how you want them, you can always refinish or paint the kids' furniture to make them fit in with the décor.

Paint

Instead of trying to use wallpaper in the entire room, paint the walls the color you want and then decorate with a simple border or stencil a design around the windows, ceiling, and doors. This is a lot cheaper than wallpaper and it usually turns out cuter.

Look Online

Don't be scared to buy your kid's bedding or bunk beds online. If they are too expensive then just look for ideas and buy those items at discount stores later. Some online sites are inexpensive and if you know just how to use them you can save a lot of money.

Shop Around

Make sure when you are planning for this project that you are continually looking for a better price. Don't buy the first thing you see that would look cute in your girl's room. You most likely will be able to find it cheaper if you just look a little longer. Always go for the better deal. You will be surprised at just how much money you will be able to save.

Decorate with Stuffed Animals

Most little girls love stuffed animals, so what better thing to decorate with than some of her favorite animals. A great way to decorate with them is to put them on the bed, or hang them from the ceiling from a net. A lot of times bookshelves are expensive, so decorating with them this way will keep the cost down.

Drapery

An inexpensive way to do drapes in the room is to use sheer fabric and hang it from the window rod. This gives it a delicate look and also allows natural light to come into the room.

Another great thing to do with sheer fabric is to hang it above the child's bed to give it a canopy look without having to buy a canopy bed. Just place a few hooks above the bed and drape the fabric through them to create a canopy look. Little girls will love having a canopy bed in their room and you can create it for a fraction of the price.

Following these decorating ideas for a girl's room when you are on a budget, will greatly cut the costs of redecorating your child's room. Take the time to get the best price for your items and feel good in knowing you can give your girl the room she wants, for a fraction of the price.
