Decorating Your Daughter's Room with Paint

Are you decorating your girl's room, but you want to just stick to mostly painting? There are so many different options of painting when decorating a room. Painting alone can drastically change any room and there are numerous things that you can do with paint. Here are some great decorating ideas that use paint for a girl's room.

Trim

Make sure that you stick to white or cream trim in a girls room. This white trip with give a feminine touch to the room, no matter what the color of the walls are. If the trim is dark to start with, just use some bonding primer and then a few coats of white paint and you will have white trim. Before painting, just make sure that the trim is clean and that you have taped along the ceiling and along the floor to prevent drips on areas you may not want that color.

Colors

Depending on what the previous color of the room was may determine what look you now want. If the walls were dark and bright, you may want to make your girl's room warmer, so paint the walls with a lighter pink or yellow. If you want to the room to be cooler, then paint the walls more of a green. Make sure you have in mind what kind of feel you want in the room before you just go painting It any color.

Stencil

Don't underestimate the beauty of stenciling. Stenciling is a great way to make different designs and creatures on the walls that will liven up any room. You can stencil flowers, vines, or even butterflies, whatever your girl would love. You can even make a butterfly comforter or quilt to go along with your great new paint job.

Designs

There are a number of different designs you can incorporate into a girls room. An easy design is to paint the room with stripes. Use a light color and the same color but darker and interchange the stripe colors. You decide how wide that you want your stripes. You can even tape the stripes off and do all the light colored stripes first and when it dries go back and do the dark to ensure that they don't run together.

You can easily make swirls on the wall as well. If you have a girl that wants a fun psychedelic room then you can easily do that too. Just combine a dark pink paint color over a base coat of light pink, or whatever colors you chose. After the base coat dries, apply the top coat and while its wet comb the paint in two different circular directions with a squeegee. Then let it dry. This is a fun design to do.

A polka dot design is also great for a girl's room. You can use different shades of green or purple for something different. Decide how big or small or what variety of sizes you want your dots. Paint the wall with a base coat and then use a paint glaze for the dots. You can make light and dark ones to match the base coat. Be creative!

Murals

If you are feeling really creative, then consider painting a mural in the room. You can make any kind of scene for your girl. If she wants a princess room, just paint a simplified picture of a castle with banners flying to create a magical feeling. Paint the ceiling blue and make a sky for your castle.

You can also do a kid room mural featuring a garden and butterflies. Just use pale pinks, lavender, yellow and creams. These are great colors and they are very easy to match with. is a great place to start or you could opt for summery pink or yellow painted walls and make a butterfly comforter or quilt the focal point of the room instead.

When you use these decorating ideas that use paint, for a girl's room then you will be pleasantly surprised and what you can create. Have fun with decorating your daughters room and make sure that she has a say in what you are doing. This way when it is done she will actually love it even more. Take the time to really be creative and help create the room your daughter has been wanting.
