Safari Theme Decorating Ideas for A Boy's Room
A safari themed room is a fun way to get your boy in an adventurous spirit. It makes for a cute and fun room that is ideal for pretend and adventure. So, how do you decorate a boy's room with a safari theme? The following are some simple, but fun safari themed decorating ideas for a boy's room:
Start by painting the walls a tan/brown color. This is going to look slightly drab, but once the room is all together it will look awesome. If you have artistic ability you may want to consider painting some big canopy type trees, such as those you would see in the desert of Africa.
Get some mosquito netting and use that to make some curtains. You may want to line it with a plain fabric so that you can't see through it, or use a darker fabric as a valance over the light colored net curtains.
Get some metal hold-backs for keeping your curtains off the windows during the day, and look for some small safari animal toys that you can glue to the ends of the hold backs to give them a little bit more flair.
Cover an existing chair with a fun animal print fabric, such as leopard or zebra, or buy a new piece that is animal print. Make sure you get a masculine looking print as this is for a boy's room.
If you have your own photos from a safari blow them up to at least 8x10 size. If you do not have some of your own, print, or buy some great photos of lions, zebras, hippos, or rhinoceros' in their natural habitat. Frame in a thick black frame and hang in a grouping of three or more at eye level in your boy's room. A great way to get safari photos for cheap in a nice size is to buy a safari themed calendar and simply use the calendar art.
Use a black wood bed, and a night stand made of a masculine wood. Find a lamp with an animal motif, or that is made of an animal as the base, and a plain canvas type shade to place on the bed side table.
Get a great bedspread that is a plain color, that compliments but does not match the walls exactly, then use throw pillows of various animal prints to accessorize the bed. Of course, try to keep them as masculine as possible, so avoid fringe.
Use nets to hold toys in the corners of the room, and consider making ropes out of twine to add details throughout the room. You can glue some rope around the edges of furniture to give it a more outdoorsy feel.
Instead of a dresser, get older suitcases in different sizes and colors of brown, and stack to hold toys or clothes. It will look like you are out on a safari, and if you keep it neat and tidy will look really cool. You can buy these at a thrift shop and clean them up and stack them near a corner. Or, consider using an older dresser and giving it a somewhat distressed look. The idea is to get the feel of being out on a safari.
Last but not least, add some fun animal accessories. If you have a bookshelf in the room, get animal bookends. If you need knick-knacks, look for ones that fit your safari theme. Animals are a great way to add to the look and feel of the room, just remember not to over do it, or mix it with jungle or some other theme.
If you can find a safari hat, hang it on one bed post for that extra touch.
