Simple Painting Ideas for a Kid's Room
The following are a few simple painting ideas for a kid's room:
Idea one: Start with a solid color. Applying a solid color on a wall is really easy. Of course you want to make sure that you clean the wall well before, and tape areas you do not want painted. But then apply a solid coat of paint, preferably a lighter color, like yellow, pink, light blue, etc. Then let your child join in the fun by choosing a complimentary color, such as pink, purple, or red, and the carefully dip your child's hand in paint, and let them create a border along the wall with their own handprint. To make sure the border is as straight as possible, use a laser level, or use a pencil to sketch in a light line. This is an easy way to add personality to your child's room, and let them be involved in the process. If you are not big on handprints, consider free handing flowers, hearts, cars, sports balls, etc. The idea is simple, start with a solid color, and paint over top of it by hand with some fun designs.
Idea two: Paint a scene or a mural. This does not sound simple, but in many cases it is far easier than one would think. For example, if your child absolutely loves Winnie the Pooh, you can paint the big oak tree from the show right on their wall. Start by painting the wall a light blue, then use a pencil to sketch the big tree. Free hand it, and see what you create. If you are worried, pull a picture of the tree up on the internet, and print it out, then use it as a guide. Then, use a sponge, or smaller paint brush to fill in the tree, use a sponge brush to add leaves in two or three shades of green, and consider adding some grass at the bottom of the wall by making several single strokes with a brush. The results: A great room, simple, fun, and unique.
Idea three: Use a sponge. One of the best ways to do more in a kid's room then paint a wall a solid color is to paint it that solid color, then paint over it with a sponge in another solid color. For example, paint your little girl's room dark pink, then use a rose pink to sponge over it for a lighter, unique color and texture. You still get the solid color you want to make it easier to add the rest of your décor, but you get it with a little flair.
Idea four: This is something you see done in many rooms, but really is an easy, fun way to make your kid's room cute. Start by using a laser level to create a line on your wall part way up, it can be exactly half if you want, or higher, or lower. Tape where the line is, then paint to the tape. Then, buy a prepasted border and hang. These borders can be a fun way to establish a theme or add a little personality to a room. They come in every pattern imaginable, and also many different sizes. They are easy to apply, easy to take down, and relatively inexpensive. You can complicate things a little by adding some paint elements to the top of the wall too if you would like. For example, let's say your son loves baseball. So you find a great baseball patterned border, and buy paint in Yankee blue to paint the lower half of the wall. Well, you could use that same blue to paint pin stripes on the top half of the wall, and then use the border in between for a fun look. This is not as easy, but is still just a matter of paint and painter's tape.
These are just a few simple paint ideas that can really liven up your child's room.
