Tips for Using Color in Kids' Rooms

There are tons of ways to make your kid's room colorful. You can have so much fun with it and really make it look great. Here are some tips for using color in a kid's room.

You can always have a theme. Themes are great because you can do so much with them. For example, you can make a beach theme. Paint the top part of the wall blue, like the sky, have a partition like a chair railing around the room and paint it a different color, like white, and then make the bottom part a sandy brown. Have carpet put in that looks like sand. You can create so much color in the room that way. You can have paintings and decorations that make the room look like a real beach room or getaway.

If your child likes bold colors or a certain color, build a room around it. Use other colors that make the room pull together. You can use pinks and greens or blues and greens. They are both colors that really go well together and really create a fun atmosphere. Use colors in the decorations and paintings that go well with the paint color you chose. Use colors that help to bring out the many colors in the room so that it doesn't just look like a blue room or pink room.

Create a border in your kid's room. You don't have to put up a chair railing or something like it, just paint on a border. It can be a different color than what you are painting the walls with, or just a different shade of the same color. If you want more color, use a different color for the bottom part of the wall than the border or top of the wall.

Have fun furniture in the room. Color can come from anywhere. There are tons of stores that carry green chairs or even something like a green bedspread can help to bring color to the room. If you don't want to spend tons of money on a new paint job, then just change a few things like the bedspread, which you should replace every so often anyways, and the headboard. You can make your own headboard for really cheap. You basically only need some fun fabric and some wood. Check out home styling websites for instructions on how to make them.

If you want a lot of color and a really big picture in your kid's room, paint a mural. They provide tons of color and really help a theme look even better. Murals can get expensive, but if you live near a college, you can see if an art student would be willing to paint one for you. If you want to paint it yourself, you can always get some books on painting murals. You might want to trace it on the wall first with a pencil so that you can erase it if necessary.

You want to have color in your child's room, but you don't want too much. Too much color makes a room confusing and look really bad. Test any colors out before hand and really think about the colors before you do anything drastic.
