Using Paint To Decorate a Kid's Room
Using paint is a great way to decorate a kid's room. Paint can add that little something extra you may not be getting elsewhere. For example, all kid's rooms have furniture, a bunk bed, etc. but what you do beyond that is what makes the biggest difference. So, let's look at some of the ways you can use paint to decorate a kid's room.
You can basically use paint two ways to decorate a kid's room: You can paint the furniture, and you can paint the walls. Let's look at both options.
Furniture: If you are going to paint your furniture in order to decorate a kid's room you will want to do a couple of things. You will first want to decide on a theme or an idea for the room so that you are not painting willy-nilly. You may just decide on a color scheme, but no matter what, do this first. Then, use paint to make your furniture fit the room better. For example, let's say that you decide that for your toddler's room you want to have a monkey'n around theme. So, you can do a few things to paint your furniture to fit the theme. You can paint a picture of a monkey on your actual furniture, or of a banana, etc. Or, you can choose a color scheme for your theme, maybe brown, green, and yellow, and then paint your furniture to match the color scheme. Of course, no matter what you decide to do with paint for the furniture, make sure it compliments what you choose to do with the walls. For example, you might take a bed and paint it like the slats are vines, then use a stuffed animal to hang from it to look more real. Well, you would not want to do this if you paint vines on the walls as well. It would just be too much.
Walls: Paint can go a really long way on your walls when decorating a kid's room. There are number of things you can do with pain on a wall to decorate a room. Let's look at those options:
Solid colors: Obviously the simplest thing you can do with paint to decorate a kid's room is to simply paint the whole room or a few walls of it a solid color. For example, you might offset your daughter's white bedroom set by painting the walls purple. You might add some light to a room by painting it yellow, or highlight the pure masculinity of your boy by painting his room brown or blue. While easy, solid colors can make a big impact when decorating a kid's room.
Designs or patterns: When using paint to decorate a kid's room one of the things you can do is add a design or pattern to the wall using paint. This can be something like stripes, polka dots, a hash mark pattern, or any number of other things. Usually when someone chooses to add a pattern to the wall it will not be the entire wall, but it can be. Often times you will find an inspiration for the room, such as a great comforter, and add a pattern to the wall in order to compliment that. For example, let's say for your daughter's room you find a great bedspread that has a fun gingham pink check around the edges. You can use paint to recreate the same check look as a border half way up the wall to tie the separate elements of the room together. Or, you can do something all over the wall, such as polka dots to add spunk and fun.
Images or murals: One popular choice for using paint to decorate a kid's room is to add images. For example, if the room is sports themed you might paint an oversized football on the wall, or soccer ball, etc. If it is fairy themed, you might paint a castle on the wall. The sky is the limit, and people use all sorts of different images. If you are not great artists and do not want to free hand it, you can print an image off on to a transparency, and then use a projector to project the image on the wall, outline it in pencil, and fill it in with paint.
Partial paint with borders: Another fun option for using paint to decorate a kid's room is to only paint half way up the wall of the entire room, and then choose a fun border that is prepasted and easy to apply to use as a transition between the two paint colors. Of course, you can also use a chair rail.
