Using What You Already Have on Hand for Decorating A Boy's Room
Because decorating can be really expensive once you buy the furniture for your boy's room, and the bedding, and all of the other things you need, it can be very useful to know some of the decorating ideas you can use that take advantage of the things you already have on hand. There are some fun and easy ways to decorate your boy's room with toys, fabrics, and around the house items you probably already have. The following are some good ideas:
Decorating idea one: Do you have an old mop, broom, or anything else with a long handle? You can use that handle to create a unique and decorative curtain rod. Simply remove the apparatus so that all you have is the rod/handle. Then, you want to put your curtains on the rod, and glue old toys on the ends to hold the curtain in place. For example, if you have a sports themed boy's room, you can take tennis balls that are worn out, cut slits in them, and put them on either end of the handle. This makes a fun, cute, creative curtain rod for a sport themed boy's room. You can do the same thing with dinosaurs, animals, cars, bugs, etc. This is cheap, and usually you have everything you need to make it happen right at home. You may have to buy some hooks to hold the rod in place above your window, but they will cost you less than $5 at Home Depot.
Decorating idea two: Do you have sheets that are worn out, that have a missing mate, or that are stained? You can use these old sheets to create a themed window valance, curtains, or tiebacks. If you have a plain white sheet, use some fabric paint to decorate the sheet after sewing it into a window valance. Creating a window valance is easy, and customizing it to fit your theme, or your boy's room colors is simple. You can get stencils and paint specific shapes or pictures, you can paint pin stripes, or whatever you want.
Decorating idea three: Create your own art. One really fun and unique way to decorate your boy's room is with their own works of art. Get your child a canvas and some paint, and let them create their own masterpiece to hang on their walls. They may be really gifted, or maybe not, but when you hang their work of art on the wall, they are sure to be proud. It is a cheap option, and one that makes the room uniquely theirs. If your child is still too small to create artwork themselves, you can still use this same concept for cheap wall art. For example, if you have a dinosaur themed room, either create a dinosaur scene on canvas yourself, or ask a talented friend to do it for you. No one else's room will be like theirs, which will make them feel special, and make your design one of a kind. If you have some saved artwork your child has created over the years, you can use that with fun bold frames to adorn their walls, and all for a low cost. This is a great way to use what you have.
These are just a few decorating ideas that use things you already have on hand, you can come up with your own ideas, or search the web for a few more ideas that use things commonly found around the house.
