Why Use Themes When Decorating Kids' Rooms

When you decorate a room, you want it to last a long time. You don't just want your child to decide in 1 year that they hate the décor and want a different color for their paint. It is a headache. You can spend what you want and really make it pop however you want. Themes give a room meaning. It says this room is a relaxing zone, or this room is a fun zone. You want your child to have a room that they can call their own and really be proud of. Their room should be something that they love and something that they help to pick out.
Themes also give more definition from the rest of the house. You have a specific theme or style for the kitchen, the family room, and your bedroom and so should your kid's rooms. They need to say this is so and so's room. Or this is the fun area. Or this is so and so's adventure room. They need to be different just like your kid's are different. They have different wants and like different like. They should have their own room to feel comfortable and relaxed in.
When a child has their own room, it helps give them security. They can go in there if they are having a bad day or if they just want to relax. They should have an area where they feel safe and secure that they can call their own. Many kids love tree houses, but that isn't a reality for every child. They love playing in them and being up their alone in their own sort of sanctuary. Just like you like having your own master bedroom that is your sanctuary, your kids need the same thing. They need a place to relax and be themselves. A home does that but a room that is designed just for them and is perfect for them really helps to add to it. They really feel more like the room is their own and their personal space.
Even if your kid's share a room, themes are great. They can decide on something together and create a great room. Two minds can create something even better than one. Have them compromise on something that they will both like. They will both feel like the space is their own and will be much happier in the room together knowing that they created it and really helped pull it together.
You don't have to have something that is crazy expensive to create something your child will love. There are tons of websites that have free home decorating ideas that are really cheap and easy to make. Try some out the next time you are decorating a kid's room.
