Your Girl's Room to Grow On

Are you sick of redecorating your girl's room every few years? If you haven't started doing that yet, but you see it coming, there are ways around it. There is no need to have to completely change your girl's room every time she decides that she likes something different. There are a few tips in how to keep you having to redecorate every time your daughter gets a few years older. Here are some great decorating ideas for a girl's room that can grow with them.

Paint

The key to not having to completely redecorate every time your little one gets older is the paint choice of the room. Try and keep the paint color scheme simple and a color that she will always like.

Colors of paint

If your girl's room was bright pink with flowers and butterflies to begin with, this will not probably suit her as she gets older and especially in her teenage years. Depending on what the previous color of the room was may determine what look you now want. If the walls were dark and bright before, then consider making your girl's room more classy that she can grow up with. Use warmer tones such as yellows or even lighter pink if she likes pinks. Lavender and light blues are also good. Make sure you have in mind what kind of feel you want in the room before you just go painting it any color.

Trim

Make sure that you stick to white or cream trim in a girls room. This white trip will give a feminine touch to the room, no matter what the color of the walls are. If the trim is dark to start with, just use some bonding primer and then a few coats of white paint and you will have white trim. Before painting, just make sure that the trim is clean and that you have taped along the ceiling and along the floor to prevent drips on areas you may not want that color.

Bedding

The bedding is an important focal point in any room. This is what is going to give your daughter's room the feel she wants at that particular time in her life. Make sure to choose bedding to fit your girl's style now. If she is into boys and music, then keep her bedding simple with maybe more shapes and designs than actual people or things they like. If they love to dazzle, then choose bedding with a few sparkles for a little more glamour. If you choose a bedding set such as the one mentioned above, you can further spice it up. Also, adding a canopy can give that glamour look as well. If this look isn't something she likes in five years, just change the bedding. This is much easier than having to repaint and redo everything every few years.

Accessories

This is a great way to pull a room together. Accessories are very important, especially in a girls room who is growing up. They love their things. Decorative pillows, throws, rugs, lamps, photo frames and wall hangings are all great accessories. Trendy study-lamps and lampshades and overhead retro paper lanterns can be added as they get older. Accessories and bedding is what really gives personality to the room. You can also add a full length wall mirror, mirror for her dresser or her vanity as she gets older. Adding an area where she can read or study will also update a room as she matures. Add a bean bag char, a love seat or an over stuffed chair for her room. Don't forget to update photos or posters as she grows out of one stage and into another.

Make sure you decorate her room in things that she is into right now. Keep the color scheme simple and make the accessories the things you can change when she wants something new in her room. This way you aren't totally repainting her room each time she decides to like something new. Following these decorating ideas for a girl's room that can grow with them will keep them happy and it will make it so you don't have a huge redecorating job every couple of years.
